What was once the upscale alternative to the Camaro now has an unfortunately tarnished reputation. Forget that—it’s a gem.
Say the words “Firebird Trans Am” in 2016, and you’re likely to think of The Onion’s satirical vision of a shirtless Joe Biden washing his muscle car in the White House driveway. The Trans Am has become synonymous with cheap blue-collar speed. But things weren’t always that way.
In their latest video, Regular Car Reviews explores how the Trans Am went from the slightly upscale alternative to the Camaro, to the butt of its own joke. Where the Mustang of the same era is now cool and climbing in value, the Trans Am is still considered just a used car.
That’s not a bad thing, though! The Trans Am’s small block V8 is tunable for big speed, and it looks cool in a 1980s way. Perhaps the Trans Am is worth a second look.
